Young yet credible tech insider Jack March cited an unnamed source saying that a 27-inch iMac 2014 will be announced in a press event.  Apple recently sent out invites for its upcoming press event, dated Oct. 16, and tech followers are waiting to see if the company will, indeed, showcase the new iMac, as well as the latest iPad line and a refreshed MacBook Air and Pro.

Below are five things that everyone should expect in the new iMac 2014 that is reportedly coming out this Thursday.

5K Retina display

According to Marsh, the desktop will pack a 5K Retina screen display, which is one of the highest resolutions in the current market. The screen panel will include 5120 x 2880 pixel resolution, which is a big jump from the 2560 x 1440 QHD screen resolution of the current 27-inch iMacs.

OS X Yosemite

Another feature of the upcoming iMac is OS X Yosemite. The desktop operating system was announced at the Worldwide Developers' Conference (WWDC) event held last June, and is predicted to be officially rolled out at the Oct. 16 event. The new desktop OS will give the icons a facelift and a new design. The icons are expected to be a little flatter, transparent, and have frosted effects. However, the new Mac OS X 10.10 will retain some of the computer's previous features such as Finder and Mission Control.

USB Type C

The desktop will probably pack the new USB Type C port. Previous reports claimed that the new USB port will be included in the new MacBooks. The USB Type C port delivers faster data transfer and a cable that connects all.

Haswell processor

The new Apple computer will be powered by Haswell i7-4790K processor clocked at 4.0GHz. It was initially reported that the desktop will pack a Broadwell chipset. However, Intel pushed back the release date of the chipset until early next year.

AMD graphics processor

According to Marsh, Apple may let go of the NVIDIA graphics processor and the new desktop will instead pack an AMD GPU.
