The HTC One M8 Prime release date was reportedly cancelled and the once rumored smartphone will be replaced by the successor of the company's phablet – HTC One Max.

Latest reports claimed that Taiwanese mobile manufacturer HTC is testing out different things for its upcoming device. Thus, rumors emerged that the company will release a premium version of the HTC One M8. However, new reports claimed that the device will no longer come into fruition.

Phone Arena reported that the HTC One M8 Prime will be replaced by a different yet larger model. The report stated that a new 5.2-inch smartphone will replace the rumored premium smartphone. Moreover, this will revamp the HTC One Max.

According to the rumors, the HTC One M8 Prime will pack a screen display with quad HD or 1,440 x 2,560 pixel resolutions. The handset will also allegedly pack a quad-core Snapdragon 805 processor, 3GB of RAM, support for LTE-A Cat. 6 connectivity. Lastly, the smartphone will sport a dual camera at the back.

This is not the first time that the HTC One M8 Prime was reportedly cancelled. Last month, the same rumor emerged after reliable tipster @evleaks tweeted that the device's release date was delayed "indefinitely". He also tipped that HTC is working on two new M8 models.

Tech blog 9to5Google cited unnamed sources close to HTC who claimed that the manufacturer is planning to release a high end smartphone dubbed as HTC One M8 Plus with 5.2-inch display containing a "higher pixel count than any smartphone on the market." The HTC One M8 Plus is also rumored to feature 3GB of RAM and possibly a "water-resistant" body.

Meanwhile, one thing is for sure, a new device will arrive soon as the price of the HTC's flagship phone received a large cut of $150 on eBay. The smartphone is now available for $550 with free shipping. The stocks available are the metallic silver and grey since the gold-colored model is out of stock.
