How to fight doubt when you question your faith

Have you ever come to a point where you started questioning your faith? Are you questioning it now? Or do you know someone who is struggling with doubts at the moment? Christians can also suffer from doubts, but if left unanswered, this may lead a Christian to completely abandon his or her faith. But of course, you can't let yourself or your friend just give up without a fight. Check out these ways on how to fight a faith crisis.

Ask yourself where this doubt is coming from

The thing with doubt is that it comes from a place of uncertainty. You don't have your answer, which is why you doubt. So to be able to get to the root cause of your faith crisis, you need to look into yourself and ask what are the questions that have been bothering you. To be able to remove this doubt, you have to find spiritual comfort, but you can only get that through getting your answers.

Everything about God isn't an easy thing to believe, which is why we rely on our faith. But if you can't bring yourself to just simply believe in the Lord without getting your solid answers, then surely, your faith will always dwindle. And just because Christianity is hard to understand doesn't mean that it will be easier to just reject God altogether. If you want to fight for your faith, seek your answers. Talk to your church pastors for clarity and assurance.

What will you believe then?

It is more understandable for someone to doubt his or her belief because something else makes more sense. However, you'd be surprised to know that there are people who just doubt because they have unresolved questions. Whichever of these two you are, have you asked yourself what else you would believe if you didn't believe in Christianity anymore? And if you have another religion you're interested in, don't you also have questions about it? The truth is, there won't be any other religious belief that you will not doubt, because all religions are based on faith, and relying on faith alone is a hard thing to do. This is why doubt and questions start to get the best of you, especially if you don't have solid faith.

Address your expectations

While the Bible is filled with stories that teach us a thing or two, you must admit that there are instances where you ask why God allowed this or why it had to happen this way. In your mind, you have these expectations of what things should be. When those expectations are not met, you feel disappointed and disheartened. Doubt stems from these feelings. So if you want to address your doubts, address those ailed expectations first. After that, do some investigating. Most of the time, you can't find the answers alone. Instead, talk to a pastor, your parents, or a spiritual group leader for those answers.

If your faith is dwindling and you feel like your unresolved questions are getting the best of you, take a step back and just pray. Pray to God to help through this difficult time. Pray that He removes the burden in your heart. Pray that He gives you people who can help strengthen your faith again. When there's doubt in your heart, the more you should cry out to the Lord and not wander away. Don't be defeated by the devil, breaking your relationship with the Lord is the devil's goal.
