Pablo Prigioni, who last played for the LA Clippers and then went into free agency, has just signed a two-year deal with the Houston Rockets. The news was first posted by The Vertical's Adrian Wojnarowski via Twitter. The exact details of his new contract and how much was offered have yet to be revealed.
Prigioni initially played for the Rockets during the 2014-2015 season but then signed on to the LA Clippers in the season after. At 39, he is not the youngest on the team and this may affect his performance and how much time he gets to play per game but his level of experiernce and skills will benefit the Rockets.
As stated in a report from CBS Sports, his age guarantees that he isn't going to be fast on the hardfloor and his lack of speed as a point guard will diminish his efficiency in terms of defense. However, the report points out he is effective in pick-and-roll tactics and this is what coach Mike D'Antoni will require of him in order to get the most out of his potential.
The report also states that Prigioni will also likely be required to fire at the three-point range but might not be as effective as D'Antoni requires given that Prigioni reportedly prioritizes passing instead of taking a high-risk three-point shot. This might have to change with his position now in the Rockets and how his teammates will work with him on the floor.
It is further pointed out that Prigioni will not be the starting point guard as that honor will go to Patrick Beverly. The team does notably lack a traditional backup point guard and this is rumored to be the role that Prigioni will fill in for, although it is undetermined at this point how well his style will mesh with James Harden as the team's main play maker.
