'House of Cards' season 5 spoilers: Claire to take down husband Frank

Frank and Claire Underwood Netflix

"House of Cards" season 4 saw Claire (Robin Wright) and her husband Frank Underwood (Kevin Spacey) wage political warfare against each other before they finally began working together, with Claire taking seat as his vice president. According to Ecumenical News, this is a sign that Claire may lead to Frank's eventual downfall.

In the original U.K. series, Frank's wife eventually hired an assassin to murder her husband once she realized he was no longer as powerful and stable as he once was, allowing her to take full position as the person on top. It is speculated that "House of Cards" season 5 will play out in a similar fashion.

Claire has already learned most of Frank's political secrets and strategies and it is widely speculated that she will use all of these tidbits to put him into a corner before finally taking him out, allowing herself to rise up as the new President of the United States.

It is also hinted that Claire will become the new main protagonist given that she broke the fourth wall for the very first time during the season 4 finale, an act that only Frank would do.

According to the report, a major change is coming to the series as well given that series creator Beau Willimon has stepped down from the series, passing his responsibilities to Frank Pugliese and Melissa James Gibson as the new show runners. This has gotten fans speculating that season 5 is indeed going to be the final season of the show.

If this proves true then season 5 will see Frank fall from grace and it is very likely that Claire will be the one responsible for his fall and eventual death as it may push her up to take his place.

There is no confirmed release date for "House of Cards" season 5 but it is expected to premiere in early 2017.
