'Homeland' season 4 premiere: Brody to return as Damian Lewis spotted on the set

There are speculations that Brody's character will return to "Homeland" next season as Damian Lewis, the actor who plays the role, was spotted on the set.  According to reports, Lewis was seen leaving his trailer on the shoot location of the fourth season of the series, which immediately sparked the rumors of his return to the show. Predictions claim that Lewis will appear in flashbacks and will not be part of the regular cast.

Meanwhile, "Homeland" co-creator Alex Gansa offered the much needed explanation for why the show had to kill the beloved character Brody. He said that the core of the series is about a CIA agent working in the field.  Claire Danes will reprise her role as Carrie Mathison, the CIA agent in Pakistan and Afghanistan.

Gansa said that Brody's character was supposed to exit after season 1. However, Lewis' amazing and successful portrayal of the character made him a regular cast for three seasons.

"When we first pitched the series to Showtime, Howard and I always thought that the Brody story would last one year," Gansa told Zap2It.

Gansa also said that Brody will always be a part of Carrie Mathison, which will make it hard for her to cope with his death. The fourth season will open with Carrie managing the responsibilities of becoming a mother of Brody's child, which will make Brody an unshakeable part of her life.

It seems, however, that fans were not thrilled with Brody's character getting killed off in the series.

"I know that there are plenty of fans out there who are saying they're never going to watch the show again because Brody isn't in it, but I just feel that people are invested in this character and curious about where her life takes her after the loss of this very important person in her life," he said.

"Homeland" season 4 will be back to air with two back-to-back episodes on Oct. 5.
