'Homeland' season 6 spoilers: Quinn alive but 'severely damaged'

Claire Danes as Carrie Showtime

"Homeland" season 6 will be filmed and set primarily in New York, states a report from Entertainment Weekly, and of the big plot twists coming for fans of the show is the inevitable return of Peter Quinn (Rupert Friend), who was presumed dead in the season 5 finale.

According to Showtime's David Nevins, Quinn's return will be explained in a grounded manner, meaning there will be a logical explanation on how or why Quinn managed to survive his gas chamber encounter and the fact that Carrie (Claire Danes) tampered with his life support system in the hospital.

This was in comparison to shows like "Game of Thrones," which also ended its last season on a cliffhanger with a character presumed dead and now likely to return, although in the case of "Game of Thrones," this will be done through supernatural means.

Showtime's programming president, Gary Levine, added that "Quinn is severely damaged. There is no question about it. The life-or-death question remains. But if he should live, it will not be in any way, shape or form the way he has lived to date."

As stated in the report, this indicates that Quinn is indeed coming back, although it is possible he will not be back diving straight into action at the beginning of the season. Instead, season 6 may focus on Quinn's recovery and with the character dealing with the repercussions of his injuries, some of which might be permanent.

The rest of the report confirms that New York will be the main setting for the season, which means Carrie and the team will be dealing with a domestic threat. When asked, Nevins stated that some of the plotlines may be inspired by real-world issues and figures such as Donald Trump and the growing fear of Muslim immigrants.

However, Nevins also confirmed that there will be other locations in season 6 and this may relate to the main story or to Quinn's recovery arc.

"Homeland" season 6 will premiere this fall.
