'Homeland' season 5 spoilers: new plot, new setting, and new relationship

Homeland Showtime

According to a report from Zap2It, fans of "Homeland" shouldn't expect season 5 to be a direct follow-up of season 4. There will be a time-jump of three years and Carrie (Claire Danes) has now severed all ties to the CIA and Islamabad. She is now in self-exile in Berlin, which is where the entirety of season 5 was shot and will take place in.

Instead of working for the CIA, Carrie will now be working for a private security firm.

With a new home, a new job, and new people to interact with, it is only reasonable that the show will introduce several new main characters. According to a report from Design and Trend, one of these new characters is a new love-interest for Carrie. This immediately rules out Quinn.

Back in season 4, the two had a shaky relationship, unsure if they saw each other as lovers or if they were only using each other for personal gain and convenience. All of that is going to be thrown out the window because Carrie will be dating someone else now. However, it doesn't mean Quinn is completely out of the game.

Executive producer Meredith Steihm stated in the report from Zap2It that Quinn and Carrie wouldn't really be an "item" even if they did hitch together in season 4.

"I think these type of people just don't succeed really with long term relationships," she explained. "No one settles down and has a happily ever after if you live like that."

Along with a new love-interest are two other new characters: one is a quick-witted lawyer, and the other is described as a father-figure to Carrie. No casting details have been revealed at this point so there are no confirmations regarding who these two characters will be, what their origins are, or who would portray them.

"Homeland" season 5 is expected to premiere this fall.
