'Halo 5: Guardians' Beta begins Dec. 29; Update size leaked

The beta release date of the much-awaited Halo 5: Guardians had been revealed during Microsoft's conference in Gamescom 2014. Halo 5 Facebook Page

There's high anticipation for the "Halo 5: Guardians" beta update, and Reddit users at /r/Halo were able to get important information about it. Apparently, the image of the beta at the Xbox Marketplace indicates how big the update will be.

According to iDigitalTimes, the leaked image is presumed to have been taken in Europe. The release date in the image reads "4/12/2014" but the release date is actually Dec. 29 and will last until Jan. 18, 2015. Hence, the whole thing might just be a glitch and the hawk-eyed Reddit users were lucky to have found it.

Based on the info, the "Halo 5" update will be a massive one, expected to use up about 10.27 GB of space on the Xbox One hard drive. Gamers who do not have that much space can benefit from the leaked info, as they can start freeing up more space now.

So, what's coming with the huge update anyway? According to Polygon, players will enjoy seven new maps in three game modes. The beta will run on 720p resolution and 60 fps for the time being. Also, there will be several new moves for Spartans including the Clamber, Ground Pound, Thruster Pack, Stabilizer, Spartan Charge and Slide.

For further movement improvement, the Spartans can now sprint as long as they want but it comes with a price — shields won't recharge. So, now, players will have to decide whether they want their shields to recharge and just sit out, or sprint away and risk not having a shield.

With the weapons, there will now be the "Smart Scope" which will be available to all the guns. But that's not all, the update will also bring tons of new technology to the Spartans.

Game designer Quinn DelHoyo told Polygon, "By pressing the left trigger you can pull up the smart scope mode. The helmet links with the weapon and creates an augmented reality HUD system that lets you fine-tune your aiming."

DelHoyo also shared that in order to unlock new weapons and equipment, watching the TV series "Halo: Nightfall" will be useful apart from playing the beta. Additionally, only those players who purchase "The Master Chief Collection" can play the beta ... for now. DelHoyo's open-ended remark seems to indicate that there will be a change so other players can try out the beta, too.
