'Grey's Anatomy' season 12 episode 16 spoilers: Meredith's love life takes a bad turn

Meredith Grey (Ellen Pompeo) in Grey's Anatomy season 12 ABC

"Grey's Anatomy" season 12 episode 16, which airs later tonight, will showcase Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) taking one step further in her relationship with Will Thorpe (Scott Elrod), but then things will quickly go south and she is going to immediately regret her decision.

According to a report from Cosmopolitan, it appears that Meredith is still going to have to adjust in getting into a new relationship with someone other than her deceased husband, Derek (Patrick Dempsey). In the show's timeline, it has already been around two years since Derek's death but that doesn't mean Meredith has already moved on and adjusted.

A new promo trailer has also been released and it shows Thorpe spending the night over at Meredith's. He's also shirtless, which can only mean that something more than sleeping took place as they spent the night together. However, the night of romance quickly dies when the next scene shows Meredith kicking Thorpe out of the house.

Maggie (Kelly McCreary) walks out of the bathroom as Thorpe is getting dressed to leave. Meredith then continues screaming, telling Maggie to get Thorpe out of the house. When Maggie and Thorpe try to talk about it, Thorpe merely states, "We were sleeping... and then the screaming."

This statement indicates that the problem may not be with Thorpe but with Meredith's own psyche as she may be thinking about Derek while spending time with another man. Given how Meredith can be so sudden and irrational on this show, it would come as no surprise that she'd get mad at Thorpe simply because he reminded her of Derek.

Not all of the episode will focus on Meredith's on-and-off flirting with Thorpe. As stated in a report from the IBTimes, the episode will also tackle the relationship between April (Sarah Drew) and Jackson (Jesse Williams) now that the latter knows April is pregnant.

"Grey's Anatomy" season 12 episode 16 airs tonight on ABC.
