Google Nexus 8 release date was speculated to happen on Aug. 19 in New York City after HTC announced that it will hold an event, according to CNET.

Previous speculations claimed that HTC is developing the next Nexus tablet, which will sport 8.9-inch display screen and will be "high-performance" tablet. The tablet will be available with a premium price tag.

Google Nexus 8 is rumored to pack an 8.9-inch screen with 2048 x 1440 pixel resolution and 221dpi, NVIDIA's Tegra K1 processor, and 2GB RAM. It is still unconfirmed which third party manufacturer will lend Google a hand in making the Nexus 8 tablet.

Reports are pointing to HTC to take the helm in building the new Google tablet as HTC Volantis has been making the rounds for quite some time. The tablet is speculated to cost $399 for the 16GB version, $499 for the 32GB version, while the LTE version will have a price tag of $600.

Google Nexus 7 received discounts recently which are indications that a new tablet is coming soon. Google Nexus 8 release date will most likely happen in the fourth quarter after the tablet skipped to showcase at Google's I/O Developers' Conference in June. However, Google has not confirmed any imminent release date.

Meanwhile, it was speculated that the Taiwanese manufacturer will announce a new version of its flagship smartphone, HTC M8, running with Windows Phone OS.

Some of the rumored features of the alleged HTC M8 with Windows OS are 5.5 inch QHD display, 3 GB of RAM and LTE connectivity. Instead of HTC's trademark of ultrapixel camera, the handset will pack a regular camera. Moreover, the smartphone will run with the latest Windows Phone 8.1 GDR1and the update will come with support smart cases.

There is also a chance that HTC will also release its own smartwatch dubbed as One Wear. The wearable device was spotted in a company video.
