Google Nexus 5X release date, features: Full specs roundup; Sept. 29 release?

Google Nexus 5 Google/Nexus

Google is expected to make an avalanche of different announcements in its upcoming event that will be held in San Francisco this Sept. 29. And according to a report from TalkAndroid, the long-rumored Nexus devices from LG and Huawei are likely to be among those that will be showcased during the event.

The Huawei device, rumored to be the next Nexus 6, will be bigger and slightly more powerful; while the LG handset, dubbed as the Nexus 5X or Nexus 5 (2015), will be the more consumer-friendly version due to its lower price tag. After their unveiling at the San Francisco event, the phones will reportedly be made available for pre-order starting Oct. 13.

According to the report, Google's release schedule for their Nexus devices in the past followed a 1- to 3-week gap between the devices' unveiling and the actual release. As Google has not yet officially confirmed the Sept. 29 or Oct. 13 dates, both are being noted as possible release or pre-order dates for the devices.

The Nexus 5X will reportedly feature a Qualcomm Snapdragon 808 processor, 3 GB RAM, 16 GB and 32 GB storage variants, a USB Type-C port, a 5.2-inch full HD 1080p display, a 12.3 MP rear camera, a 5 MP front camera, and a 2700 mAh battery to power the device.

While there are rumors that the Nexus 5X may feature the Snapdragon 810 processor, the added pricetag for the upgrade may go against the goal of delivering a more affordable smartphone, which is why the phone might be fitted with the Snapdragon 808 instead.

It is also speculated that Android M, reportedly called Android 6.0 Marshmallow, will come native to both Nexus devices. Given that the Nexus line is Google's flagship phone series, this is highly likely to be the case. Moreover, the Android M beta versions that have already been released thus far give credence to the speculation that Android M is ready for release.

According to KnowYourMobile, another hint that Android M and the Nexus 5X will be unveiled this Sept. 29 is the timely release of Android Pay, Google's new e-wallet system.
