'God Back on Political Agenda,' say Theologians

|PIC1|Theologians and thinkers will be meeting in Liverpool later this year to discuss ways religious discourse can impact politics in an increasingly secular UK.

The Political Discourse Colloquium at Liverpool Hope University in September is expected to provide an opportunity to explore the themes and issues that define language and communication of a Christian worldview in the public square.

Contributors will include the Bishop of Liverpool, the Rt Rev James Jones, Dr Jolyon Mitchell from the School of Divinity at the University of Edinburgh, Nick Spencer of the public theology think tank Theos, and Professor John Sullivan, Centre for Christian Education at the Liverpool Hope University.

"For a long time, religious discourse has had limited access and impact in politics. In the UK, we have all heard politicians say 'we don't do God', and it is generally acknowledged that Christian political discourse has not been effective in speaking truth with grace in our contemporary medias cape," the event website notes.

"However, given the growing number of challenges to secularism, it is clear that God is very much back on the political agenda."

The event takes place from 28-29 September. For more information, go to www.bible2babel.org.
