Glasgow Gospel film to premiere in East End of Glasgow

With appearances by many of Scotland’s best known actors and presenters, The Glasgow Gospel brings the stories of the New Testament to life in a fresh way.

The soundtrack includes several new songs written and performed by the film’s musical director, Alastair McDonald .

The presenters include TV personalities Paul Young of Hooked On Scottish, Eileen McCallum, Libby McArthur and June Brogan Glen of River City, and Tony Roper of The Steamie.

The Carntyne area of Glasgow is home to the film’s writer, Jamie Stuart, and he was keen that the first showing on October 7 would be in his local church, High Carntyne Church.

Featuring over thirty Gospel stories retold with Stuart’s unique wit and warmth, the production was filmed on location across the city of Glasgow.

Collie Productions has worked on the DVD version of the best-selling paraphrase, A Glasgow Bible, for almost a year.

Says Jane Collie, one of the film’s producers: “We’ve been overwhelmed by the immense goodwill and help from all who have been involved with the project.

"We have made the DVD without serious sponsorship and it has been a privilege to work with everyone from the ‘weel kent’ and highly respected actors to the curators and passers-by who have contributed to the whole process.

"We have been made welcome wherever we have filmed...and no one has let us down.”

Last month 76,000 copies of a short preview version of the new DVD were given away in The Herald newspaper as part of the Scottish Bible Society’s bicentenary celebrations.
