Critically-acclaimed author George R. R. Martin still has miles to go before the completion of the sixth highly-anticipated installment of the "Song of Ice and Fire" series entitled "Winds of Winter" but he made sure not to leave his fans empty-handed as they kill time.
One more high-quality read has hit the shelves on Oct. 28 and many think it's just the thing. The book known as "World of Ice and Fire" is the first "Game of Thrones" book to be released after more than three years of fans' frantic waiting.
Co-written by Linda Antonsson and Elio M. Garcia, the forthcoming title will tell tales of the olden times in Westeros and Essos, which is to be told from the perspective of newbie Maester Yandel from the Citadel. Yandel's goal as described by the author is to lay out the 'history of deeds gallant and wicked, peoples familiar and strange, and lands near and far,' MTV reported via HNGN.
In line with this, IDigital Times remarked that 'the book is designed just as a contemporary medieval fantasy history would be'. However, it also emphasized that the installment may lack in significant design elements given that the pin-up chronicler has limited knowledge, some of which including the folks of Westeros, the histories of the Great Houses and all the events in the Free Cities.
As detailed by the site, the first third of the book will mainly touch on history within the Dawn Age and the Age of Heroes as well as the Reign of the Dragons and Robert's Rebellion. It will then be followed by the Seven Kingdoms and every historic find in all its corners. The last part will be more on territories outside Westeros like the Free Cities and afar. The book will also go in-depth with elaborate family trees and unfamiliar names surrounding the Targaryens, Starks and Lannisters.
Apart from the gripping historical narrative, readers will also take pleasure in the artwork adjunct in the book. Cool illustrations and map sketches plus vibrant paintings will ornate the new title. Something noteworthy is the insertion of the "Iron Throne", an astonishing painting by Marc Simonetti.
Other aspects of the book to look forward to as the 66-year-old novelist teased is the emergence of a new creed called R'hllor (Lord of Light) as well as the truth behind Walder's nickname (Holder).
