Franklin Graham hits US Senate 'hypocrisy' for welcoming Pope, then backing abortion

Rev. Franklin Graham thinks that some members of the US Senate are rather two-faced since they welcomed Pope Francis with open arms, then later rejected everything he stands for when they voted down the defund Planned Parenthood bill.

"The hypocrisy of our Senate never ceases to amaze me as they welcomed Pope Francis into their chambers with a standing ovation and then within hours they voted down the bill to ‪#‎defundPlannedParenthood, an organisation that not only murders innocent children in their mothers' wombs but is also guilty of selling body parts from these babies," he wrote on his Facebook page.

During his first visit to the US, Pope Francis became the first head of the Roman Catholic Church to address Congress, and he took that opportunity to remind America's leaders of their "responsibility to protect and defend human life at every stage of its development."

Graham could not agree more with what Pope Francis said, and he hopes that Americans will take heed of the Pope's message. "As a nation we need to call abortion what it is—murder; and we need lawmakers and leaders who are brave enough to stand and fight for human life," he said.

When Pope Francis first arrived in Washington, Graham extended a warm welcome to him, and he even reiterated the Bible lessons that have been shared by the Pope.

"Recently this Pope announced that priests could forgive abortions for one year — the Year of Jubilee," wrote Graham. "The Bible says, 'If we confess our sins, He (God) is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness' (1 John 1:9). As a sinner, I'm glad we can go directly to God for forgiveness 24/7, on any day, in any year. He sent His Son Jesus Christ to pay the price for sin with His shed blood on the Cross of Calvary."
