'Fire Emblem Warriors' to hit video game shelves on Oct. 20

"Fire Emblem Warriors" will be available on the Nintendo Switch and Nintendo 3DS on Oct. 20. However, unlike previous games in the "Fire Emblem" franchise, this upcoming title steers away from its turned-based, tactical role-playing game (RPG) roots in favor of adopting a hack-and-slash type of gameplay.

A crossover between "Dynasty Warriors" and "Fire Emblem," the upcoming game was developed by Intelligent Systems, Omega Force, and Team Ninja (the developers of "Dynasy Warriors" and "Hyrule Warriors"), and was published by Nintendo.

"Fire Emblem Warriors" follows a similar formula as "Hyrule Warriors." Released in 2014, the latter was a crossover between "The Legend of Zelda" and "Dynasty Warriors," and it featured Link and the rest of the Zelda cast in hack-and-slash, Dynasty Warriors styled combat.

At the same time, "Fire Emblem Warriors" introduces tactics familiar to the players of the previous "Fire Emblem" games. An example of this is the weapon triangle feature that allows players "to strategically choose warrirors and deploy them where they can seize the advantage on the battlefield."

Different weapons have different weaknesses, and the weapon triangle allows players to weigh the pros and cons of each encounter and choose the characters that are most well-suited for the job. According to the game's official website, players will be able to swap between deployed characters once the battle has begun.

Other things to look forward to in "Fire Emblem Warriors" are the two game modes: Story Mode and History Mode.

Story Mode features a new characters and a new tale in the Kingdom of Aytolis, while History Mode will allow old and new fans alike to revisit iconic battles from the previous "Fire Emblem" games.

Aside from that, people who purchase the game will also be able to enjoy local co-op with friends and purchase downloadable content (DLC) packs that feature new characters and weapons, and two brand new Amiibo figures — Chrom the Prince of Halidom of Ylisse and Tiki the Voice of the Divine Dragon.
