During the PlayStation Experience 2015 event, Sony and Square Enix unveiled the first official gameplay trailer of the highly anticipated "Final Fantasy VII Remake," which is set to release for the PS4. The trailer showcases not only cutscenes but English-dubbed dialogue, exploration gameplay and a sneak peek at the game's combat.

All of the scenes in the trailer focus entirely on the first area of the game, the Mako reactor which the heroes set out to infiltrate and bomb in order to stop it from damaging the planet. The trailer gives fans a good look at the updated graphics as well as new designs for minor characters such as Biggs, Wedge and Jessie.

Cloud Strife and Barret Wallace also have a few design upgrades. Cloud now resembles the design given to him in "Final Fantasy VII: Crisis Core" and Barret now has facial scars and black sunglasses. There is also a sequence showing the Guard Scorpion, the first boss of the game.

Segments of the trailer reveal how exploration is done and it appears to be akin to the mechanics seen in "Final Fantasy XV," where there is a more open-ended world that Cloud and the party can travel between. However, it is likely the locations in the trailer are set-pieces with limited areas to explore in order to direct the player to the goal.

Combat is also showcased and very little information is shared thus far. There is a sequence where Cloud and Barret are attacking Shinra soldiers simultaneously and a few scenes where Cloud is attacking in a style more akin to the action-oriented gameplay of games like "Devil May Cry" or "Kingdom Hearts."

One scene also shows Barret firing off a powerful fire attack. It is unsure at this point if this is the "Fire" materia spell.

"The team is currently hard at work on the game we teased at E3, 'Final Fantasy VII Remake,' we continue to develop the game and are finding new ways to update the content as we revisit it," stated producer Yoshinori Kitase during the presentation (courtesty of Gematsu).

"Final Fantasy VII Remake" is set to launch on the PS4, although no specific release window has yet been announced.
