Square Enix has launched a website teasing a brand new "Final Fantasy" game designed for both iOS and Android devices. The website for the mobile game has a countdown and art by Yoshitaka Amano, the artist that has spent the longest time working for the "Final Fantasy" games.
The end of the URL for the website has the words "FF_NEW" written down. This indicates that the mobile game is going to be an original title and not a mobile port of older games. Square Enix has released some original mobile games in the past, the most notable one being "Mobius Final Fantasy."
Music plays in the background, and fans of the series will recognize it as a new rendition of the "Prelude" theme song that plays in every "Final Fantasy" game.
Words are sprawled across the site, and according to IGN, the translation reads: "'Final Fantasy' is about characters filled with human appeal. About dramatic battles of anger and sadness. And more than anything, we should not forget that it is about fantasy."
It should be noted that the words were stated by Takashi Tokita, one of the three directors behind the classic RPG "Chrono Trigger." Tokita also served as the lead design director for "Final Fantasy IV" and contributed to other Square Enix properties like the "Parasite Eve" games.
According to IGN, this may hint that Tokita is going to be involved in the new "Final Fantasy" game, although it is uncertain if he will direct, produce, or merely step in as a supervisor.
With a few days left on the countdown, no official title has been announced. No in-game footage has been released, and it is uncertain if the game will use modern, real-time action-RPG mechanics like "Mobius Final Fantasy" or "Kingdom Hearts" or if it will use a traditional turn-based mechanic like "Final Fantasy VI" and "Chrono Trigger."
