'Fear the Walking Dead' season 2 spoilers: Showrunner Dave Erickson reveals major plot points

 AMC

"Fear the Walking Dead" season 1 ended with the main characters heading out to sea aboard Victor Strand's (Colman Domingo) yacht, the Abigail. In a recent interview with Variety, showrunner Dave Erickson said season 2 will tackle several key events at sea before eventually going back to land.

Erickson explained that one of the main themes is that the characters now realize their home is gone and for some time they may feel stranded at sea with no other place to go. However, Erickson also pointed out that other people will have the same idea and that surviving out at sea may be just as dangerous as surviving on land.

The showrunner also explained that the idea of where to go and where their final destination will be will also play into the season. Erickson confirmed that the Abigail is loaded with gas and that it can make a trip to any point the characters want it to, whether it be in Canada or even to Hawaii, opening up the possibilities of where the show could be set.

"What I can tell you it is not: It is not gonna be 'The Love Boat' with zombies; we're not gonna be stopping at different ports of call," Erickson stated while tackling the tone of the season. "We will have a mixture of land and sea, but it will be a while before we land on a specific destination, and that'll be part of the tension at the beginning part of the season."

Erickson also explained that the boat is well supplied and that the characters can and will fish for food but he also confirmed that some complications will force the characters to land and explore places that they normally wouldn't want to.

"Fear the Walking Dead" season 2 will premiere this April 10.
