'Fear the Walking Dead' episode 5 spoilers: Madison and Travis continue to drift apart in 'Cobalt'

The official promotional trailer for "Fear the Walking Dead" season 1 episode 5 showcases Ofelia (Mercedes Mason) causing a ruckus at the fence as she tries to investigate what happened to her mother. However, one of the more interesting developments involve Travis (Cliff Curtis) and Madison (Kim Dickens).

The fourth episode already showcased that the two are both trying to keep their family safe but have different opinions on how to do this. Madison revealed that she does not trust the National Guard while Travis explained that he thinks they can bring things back to normal. This difference will pervade in future episodes and even in future seasons.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, showrunner Dave Erickson explained that both of them are right in their methods of protecting their family but the issue is that the situation and the world they live in is beginning to change entirely.

"In this world if you are trying to be good and trying to be noble, do you ultimately compromise your family or help them? That's the transition we're beginning to see between Madison and Travis," Erickson told EW. "When she [Madison] finds that truth, how is that going to bounce off of Travis and how is going to impact their relationship?"

That truth may come out sooner than expected as the trailer reveals zombies possibly entering into the safe zone, causing the once safe area to become a war zone as the military attempts to control the situation before anyone else dies and turns. This will make up for the lack of any zombie attack in episode 4, which focused on the human threat.

The episode is officially titled "Cobalt," and fans who have been updating themselves since the show was announced will recall that "Cobalt" was the working title until they settled with "Fear the Walking Dead."

"Fear the Walking Dead" season 1 episode 5 airs this Sept. 27.
