"Fast and Furious 8" will be primarily set in New York City, marking the first time in the franchise that a film will take place in the East Coast, but it is also set to film in Cuba and Iceland. According to a report from Iceland Review, the film will feature the biggest explosion in Iceland, which is going to be filmed in Akranes, located 28 miles north of Reykjavík.

The news first broke out several weeks ago but the first confirmed images have been released online, courtesy of Jalopnik. The images reveal several military vehicles that resemble custom-built European Humvees, custom-designed ATVs, and several track Ripsaw vehicles, which are a cross between tanks and mobile snow vehicles.

According to the report, the majority of the production will take place in a location known as the Cement Fields. In this area, the crew is preparing to conduct the largest man-made explosion in Iceland's history. It is speculated by fans that Vin Diesel's Dom Toretto may be using one of the aforementioned vehicles to escape the explosion.

"Surely, this is an extensive project and will affect retail and service in town," stated Akranes Mayor Regína Asvaldsdottir. The mayor also explained that the residents of the town are excited and looking forward to the upcoming film production.

Akranes is no stranger to big-budget productions as the town has also been home to the production of hit Netflix series "Sense8." "Fast and Furious 8" will not be filming all over the town, however, as the report indicates it will mostly stick to the Cement Fields and the town's local docks.

Unfortunately, none of the leaked images showcase any of the cast, therefore it is undetermined if this sequence in the film will indeed involve Vin Diesel, Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, Kurt Russell or any of the rumored villains for the film.

It is entirely possible that only the explosions and stunts will be filmed, with the cast doing their part in front of a green screen, allowing the digital effects crew to combine the two sequences together during the post-production phase of the film.

"Fast and Furious 8" is set to release in theaters on April 14, 2017.
