'Elementary' season 5 episode 20 spoilers: Sherlock, Watson investigate a magician's death

Sherlock and Watson in "Elementary" CBS

Sherlock (Jonny Lee Miller) and Watson (Lucy Liu) will investigate the case of a murdered magician through unconventional means in episode 20 of "Elementary" season 5.

Titled "The Art of Sleights and Deception," the official synopsis for the upcoming episode reveals that a magician named Claude Rysher (Ryan Oakes), will be murdered while performing his act on stage. With this, the New York Police Department will ask Sherlock and Watson to investigate the case.

In the promotional video of episode 5, it seems that Sherlock will notice something peculiar about the performer's death. He tells Watson in the clip that Rysher "turned blue" during his final act and then died. At this point, it is still uncertain how the magician met his demise. However, spoilers also reveal that Sherlock is going to use an unconventional way to solve the mystery.

In the preview, it shows the detective telling his partner about an Abyss. Sherlock says that the Abyss told him who killed the victim. What could he be talking about?

According to Carter Matt, the upcoming episode may be a good chance for fans to see a lighter side of Sherlock. Being a detective, he will most likely have explanation on every trick performed. However, episode 20 may also feature a fun and comedic side of the story.

Meanwhile, aside from the investigation, Bell (Jon Michael Hill) will also encounter some problem in episode 20 of the spinoff. In an Internal Affairs investigation, Bell will be accused falsely of some things. Watson believes that the former husband of Bell's girlfriend Chantal (Chasten Harmon) is targeting him. It will not be a surprise as this is not the first time that Roy Booker (Robert Christopher Riley), the ex-husband, made some threats.

"Elementary" season 5 airs episode 20 on Sunday, April 23, at 10 p.m. EDT on CBS.
