'Elementary' season 4 premiere spoilers: Sherlock's mother to be 'fleshed out'

 CBS

"Elementary" season 4 will introduce John Noble as Morland Holmes, Sherlock's (Jonny Lee Miller) father but it also begs the question as to where his mother is. According to a recent interview execeutive producer Rob Doherty had with Zap2It, he revealed wether or not Sherlock's mother will appear in the season.

Doherty did explain that there have been talks to eventually bring Sherlock's mother to the show but he did not directly say whether or not she would be making an appearance or if she would only be mentioned in passing now that Morland would be coming to help his son.

"I think that would be a matter of ... I can't say a matter of time," Doherty stated with a laugh, hinting that there is a storyline in place where Sherlock's mother would be a propelling factor. It is possible she may be making an appearance at the very tail end of season 4 if they are planning a big twist for the story involving Morland.

"It's a story we need to tell. We need to find the right moment," he continued. "I think mom is a big reason why Sherlock and his father have struggled to the degree that they have, struggled as father and son."

He also explained that they would reveal why she is not shown together with Morland. This hints that Sherlock's parents may be separated or at least have a strained relationship in which Sherlock sided more with his mother than his father.

While it is unsure at this point whether or not Mrs. Holmes will be making a significant appearance or at least a small cameo, "Elementary" season 4 will have a heavy dose of Morland Holmes as he appears to be trying to help Sherlock with his struggles. However, the latter suspects there is a more sinister motivation to his father's actions.

"Elementary" season 4 premieres this Nov. 5.
