'Elementary' season 4 spoilers: Sherlock's dad to be introduced in new season

"Elementary" season 3 saw Sherlock (Jonny Lee Miller) finally giving in to his addiction right after defeating his nemesis and sponsor Oscar Rankin (Michael Weston). The episode ended with Watson (Lucy Liu) informing the detective that his father was coming to New York to see him.

A report from Entertainment Weekly offers the first look at John Noble playing Morland Holmes, Sherlock's father and the man responsible for bringing the detective to the United States. Morland was also the person who brought Dr. Joan Watson to work with Sherlock and the two have been steady allies ever since.

However, Sherlock won't be enthusiastic about his father's arrival, as elaborated by executive producer Robert Doherty.

"Once he arrives, Sherlock does not appreciate the attention or the distraction that his dad represents," Doherty said. "For him, it's too little too late. This is a father and a son with a very complicated history. I'd say for at least a couple decades, Sherlock's father has been out of sight, out of mind. This is going to be a big adjustment for Sherlock to have dad nearby."

Throughout the show, Sherlock has shown his distaste for his father, always explaining that his father only helps him due to familial obligations and not out of love or empathy. The first photo from Entertainment Weekly even showcases the two staring each other down in what is most likely to be a very heated debate.

In a previous report from EW, Doherty also explained that even Watson will become cautious around Morland. He said that there will be "friction" when she meets him and that over time, she will discover that he may be the man Sherlock described him to be. Doherty also stated that she will be keeping a "careful eye" on Sherlock's father.

"Elementary" season 4 is currently scheduled to premiere this Nov. 5.
