'Elder Scrolls 6' rumored to add new weapon types

Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, the current game in the franchise Bethesda Softworks

While there is no official word from Bethesda Software regarding the next "Elder Scrolls" title, "Elder Scrolls 6" is still one of the most highly anticipated games in the upcoming years. According to a report from Gaming Bolt, one of the newer aspects that fans should wait for is the addition of new weapon types.

"Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim," as it stands, is currently filled with several weapon types such as ranged bows, hammers, long swords and two-handed swords among many others. However, the report cites that the game series should learn to evolve and also take cue from other fantasy-based franchises such as "Bloodborne."

The report explains that it would be beneficial to the next game in the franchise to add weapons that do not behave as the others, given that combat is arguably one of the weaker points of the games thus far. "Skyrim" and "Elder Scrolls Online" have famously improved ranged and magical combat but there is a distinct lack of focus on physical combat.

It is cited that taking cues from the trick-weapons of "Bloodborne" or even from the "Dark Souls" games would give "Elder Scrolls 6" the jump that it needs to improve gameplay. However, there is also the risk of this adding loot to a game that is already marred by too much focus on unnecessary loot.

It was also previously reported that back in June the developers did mention that the next game might be a direct follow-up to "Skyrim" and that it might be titled "Skyrim 2." If this proves true then it is likely that many weapons will be based on those seen in the first game and it is going to vital for the developers to add new types in order to keep the games distinct from each other.

As there is still no official word yet from Bethesda Softworks, these still stand as mere suggestions and rumors. "Elder Scrolls 6" has no official release date but it is expected to come out sometime in 2019 or later.
