The first installment of the comedy movie "Dumb and Dumber" was not only an instant box office hit, it was also a career jump starter for its director as well as for the two protagonists. Now, after 20 long years, Harry and Lloyd will finally be reunited in "Dumb and Dumber To." Although the first movie in 1994 set a standard that is hard to beat, directors Peter and Bobby Farrelly assures fans in an interview with The Los Angeles Times that the sequel will not fall short, and will in fact be equally endearing.
"We didn't want this to be 'Dumb and Dumber Lite. We wanted it to be as good as the first movie. Our goal is that after you see both movies and a couple of years have passed, they will blur together."
The idea of continuing the movie after two decades emerged shortly after Jim Carey watched and relived the glory of the original, expressing in a phone call with Peter the sudden interest of Harry Dunne to embark on more silly antics with his best friend Lloyd Christmas, to which Peter, and Bobby as well, without much thinking replied, "Done!"
"Dumb and Dumber To" is set 20 years after all the crazy adventures that took place in 1994, reflecting the real–life gap between the release of the first movie, "Dumb and Dumber," and its sequel. The official trailer is twisty and fun where fans see the two embark on yet another road trip. This time, they are in search of Harry's long lost daughter (and apparently her kidneys) who also happens to be the apple of his best friend's eye.
Carrey, who spawned the idea, feels the same fun feeling in filming the sequel.
"We're having so much fun. It's like, more fun than it was before," the 52-year old actor said in an interview with ABC. "We're just having a blast, so everybody's getting back into the stuff and it just feels so good to have a character that only wears one thing all the time. Makes things real easy. It's great."
Jeff Daniels, who is now 59 years old, recently took on a completely different role from Lloyd in HBO's "The Newsroom."
"I got the Emmy on Sunday night and Tuesday morning I was showing butt crack. To be honest, it was frightening how fast it all came back," he said.
"Dumb and Dumber To" will be released in theaters on Nov. 14.
