'Downton Abbey' season 5: Thomas's revelation, Edith's latest predicament, a dented marriage

Lady Mary was sure taken aback. Is Tony officially her cast-off? ITV

The fifth season of "Downton Abbey" is just a few episodes away from a culmination but the story, on no account, has disentangled enough bedlams in the estate. The amount of shockers to slip prior to the British period drama television series' Christmas special in itself is nothing but electric.

Robert (Hugh Bonneville) was proven to have a twisted head. An outpour of appreciation for his darling lady love Cora (Elizabeth McGovern) has not followed his brawl with love-struck rival Bicker (Richard Grant). The encounter only ensued silent treatment and a "masterful" excuse.

In the sixth episode, the "couple" will not do any better. That's what husbands ignorant of their good wives have to expect. Bicker might be close to well-anticipated love connection.

The presence of Lord Gillingham's (Tom Cullen) former fiancée Mabel Lane Fox (Catherine Steadman) surprised Lady Mary (Michelle Dockery) in the most awkward way possible. Charles Blake (Julian Ovenden) may finally be onto something here. He might even get a pat on the back for giving the lady a bit of a sting.

Edith (Laura Carmichael) is the best choice for receiving terrible news. In the episode description, the lady "decides to take drastic action, leaving people reeling." Could it be something about family and evil schemes?

Baxter (Raquel Cassidy) will be big in the episode. Not only does she get entangled with Green's (Nigel Harman) murder (which rooted to a tipoff from a certain someone to be cleared in the upcoming episode), her suspicions about Thomas (Rob James-Collier), whose condition is worsening, may prove to be accurate.

Bad news is estimated to be in a more tumultuous degree. To balance it all off, the upcoming episode promises that "love is in the air for more than one member of the Crawley family." And could it be that the Crawley pertained to is Isobel (Penelope Wilton)? While the woman and Lord Merton (Douglas Reith) make a complicated pair, a surefire marriage is still hoped for.

The 2014 Christmas special airdate in the U.S. has been scheduled on Jan. 4 next year to follow the U.S. airing for the series's fifth season.
