'Doctor Strange' rumor: Film to feature Spider-Man cameo?

Marvel's "Doctor Strange," starring Benedict Cumberbatch as the titular hero, is currently in production. Marvel co-president Louis D'Esposito recently visited the set and uploaded a few images on his Twitter account. One of the images in question features the newly cast Spider-Man, actor Tom Holland.

The image showcases Tom Holland together with D'Esposito and "Doctor Strange" director Scott Derrickson. As stated in a report from Collider, this could simply be an instance of Holland visiting the set and friends but there is also a high possibility of him being there to film a cameo scene.

Spider-Man and Doctor Strange have worked together in the comic books and the Marvel Cinematic Universe is very open to random cameo appearances or guest appearances. After all, Falcon (Anthony Mackie) appeared in "Ant-Man," and Captain America appeared as an illusion in "Thor: The Dark World."

Doctor Strange himself has been referrenced multiple times in past films. His name popped up in "Captain America: The Winter Soldier" and the Quantum Realm, a separate dimension which may be a source for the Doctor's powers, was mentioned in "Ant-Man." It is likely that the favor may be reversed and a different hero will be featured in his film.

According to Cinema Blend, this is very well possible. "Doctor Strange" is primarily set in New York, which is also the home of Spider-Man. This makes it very likely that the web-slinger would pass by. However, it is still reiterated that it could just be Holland visiting friends or just checking out what's going on.

Previous images by D'Esposito also showcase what many speculate could be the Sanctum Sanctorium, the Doctor's main home in New York and also the center of his magical presence.

Spider-Man himself will first appear in the upcoming "Captain America: Civil War" on May 6, 2016 and will later star in his own film in 2017.
