The Marvel Cinematic Universe is going to be shaken up with the release of "Doctor Strange" this coming November as it is the first film to properly introduce magic. Magic had been waived off as some sort of advanced technology in the "Thor" films and even in "Guardians of the Galaxy," but that is not going to be case for "Doctor Strange."

During the recent San Diego Comic Con, director Scott Derrickson was approached by Games Radar regarding how the film will approach magic and if there will be some sort of scientific explanation for it and how it works. Derrickson stated that magic is not going to be that way in the film.

"Magic is magic in this movie. It's not something that's explained away scientifically. It's not something that's easy to define. As magic should be. Magic should be mysterious. There's mystery to magic and there's mystery to the tone of the movie. Mystery is a good thing," he explained. He later told Cinema Blend, "It blows your mind because you can't fully understand it."

The director did confirm that even though there would be a lot of magic and special effects in the film they would not detract from the main story and focus. According to Derrickson, the film is centered on the journey of the titular hero Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) and his adventure to overcome himself and his own obstacles.

With this in mind, the film centers on Doctor Strange's personal journey as he goes from a world-renowned doctor who gets into an accident that prevents him further practicing his profession, forcing him to study magic and learn how to help people in a different way. In many ways it will mirror the personal journey Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) went through in the first "Iron Man" movie.

"Doctor Strange" opens in theaters this Nov. 4.
