'Doctor Strange' first official trailer released

Doctor Strange poster Marvel Studios

Marvel Studios has now launched the official teaser trailer for "Doctor Strange" online. Actor Benedict Cumberbatch, who plays the titular character, revealed the trailer during an episode of "Jimmy Kimmel Live" and now the rest of the world can view the trailer via online streaming sites such as YouTube.

The trailer starts with the Ancient One (Tilda Swinton) speaking to Dr. Stephen Strange as he remains unconscious in a vehicle that had top-sided into a river. A few sequences then reveal Strange in a hospital, with his hands severely damaged, and it is indicated that the famous surgeon would no longer be able to use his hands for his medical profession.

He is then shown speaking with the Ancient One, discovering the ways of magic. It is revealed that he is searching for a new means of helping people now that his hands can no longer be used to practiced medicine. It is here that the Ancient One offers him to study the magical arts.

There are also several sequences showcasing Mads Mikkelsen's mysterious villain and Chiwetel Ejiofor as the hero-turned-villain Baron Mordo.

According to a report from Cinema Blend, it does appear that Mikkelsen's character is probably serving the opposite end of the Ancient One's philosophies and may be trying to convince Strange to work for the malevolent side. There are sequences that indicate he may be responsible for turning Baron Mordo away and shifting him into a villain.

The report also points out that Strange is speaking in an American accent, something most fans have not heard given that Benedict Cumberbatch is known for his strong British accent, particularly in "Sherlock," "The Hobbit" trilogy and in "Star Trek Into Darkness."

A report from Collider also reveals that with the launch of the new trailer comes the first official poster for the movie, showcasing Doctor Strange standing in what appears to be his main headquarters.

"Doctor Strange" opens in theaters this Nov. 4.
