Divorce party for rocker Jack White and wife

Divorce is usually a bitter experience for couples but instead of it all ending in tears, rocker Jack White and his British wife Karen Elson are taking an unusually positive approach to theirs.

They invited close friends to a party last Friday to celebrate their sixth wedding anniversary and announce their upcoming divorce.

The former White Stripes frontman and the British model-turned-singer met on the set of the music video for “Blue Orchid” and married in 2005.

After six years and two children together, they are calling it quits and decided to make the announcement at their anniversary bash in Nashville.

The invitations were an indication of how they’re feeling about parting ways.

They stressed that they did not want any “dead beats” turning up to the party and instead asked guests to “celebrate their 6th anniversary and their upcoming divorce with a positive swing bang hum dinger”.

In a joint statement issued ahead of the party, White and Elson said: “We remain dear and trusted friends and co-parents to our wonderful children Scarlett and Henry Lee.

“We feel so fortunate for the time we have shared and the time we will continue to spend both separately and together watching our children grow.

“In honour of that time shared, we are throwing a divorce party. An evening together in Nashville to re-affirm our friendship and celebrate the past and future with close friends and family.”

They have two children together, Scarlett, five, and Henry Lee, three. White was previously married to Meg White, the White Stripes drummer whose surname he took. They divorced in 2000.
