Disney's CEO Bob Iger announced during the quarterly financial call on Thursday that aside from a new "Star Wars" trilogy to be helmed by "The Last Jedi" director Rian Johnson, Walt Disney will also be producing a live-action TV series of the franchise. It will be shown exclusively on the recently-announced Disney online streaming service to be launched in 2019.

Fans of the "Star Wars" franchise are really pleased about the whole ordeal, as a live-action "Star Wars" series has never been done before, and one that is perpetually wished for by fans in the last few years. Several ideas and plans about a "Star Wars" TV series have sprung up in recent years, but have never seen fruition until now.

Aside from the "Star Wars" series, Disney's upcoming streaming service is also set to show three other original live TV shows. A TV adaption of "The Monsters Inc." is in the works, along with an original entry from Marvel and a reiteration of "The High School Musical" franchise.

No specific details have yet been released about the live-action "Star Wars" series aside from its launch in the still-unnamed Disney streaming service, but it is already highly anticipated by its die-hard fans. Since its inception, the "Star Wars" mania have proven to be on demand after many years, and with another confirmed movie trilogy of the franchise, the popularity is unlikely to die off in the upcoming years.

Variety reported that in addition the original TV series, the upcoming Disney streaming service will also produce four to five movies a year. Subscription for the service will also likely to be priced lower than Netflix's $10.99 a month because the content is substantially fewer than of its competitors.

"Our advantage as a company is to take advantages that exist out there for good television and take advantage of it," Iger said.
