David Landrum joins Evangelical Alliance
He comes to the role from the Bible Society, where he was formerly Parliamentary Officer.
In his new role, Dr Landrum will lead the public policy and theology teams at the Alliance.
He is hoping to encourage Christians across Britain to articulate a "confident, distinctive and dynamic message" for personal and social transformation across the nation, and help Christians engage in public life at a time when there appears to be a secular agenda to push faith into the margins of society.
The 46-year-old hopes to galvanise members of the Evangelical Alliance across England, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales in achieving this.
Dr Landrum said: “There are many challenges, but also many opportunities for shaping our culture with the gospel, and I look forward to contributing to the Evangelical Alliance’s important mission to be a network, a resource, and a voice for evangelicals.”
He believes that there has never been a better time for Christians to take up the mantle.
“We need to prayerfully seek God making an impact in public life in the UK, whilst resisting the temptation to see ourselves as becoming just another self-designated victim group protesting from the sidelines.
"Rather, our agenda is to engage at the very heart of social, political, cultural and economic life in the UK – because our God has a view on these things, and calls us to get stuck in.”
He grew up in Bootle, Liverpool, where he left school without any academic qualifications. After becoming a Christian nearly two decades ago, he went on to gain a first-class degree in contemporary politics and urban policy studies, before completing a doctorate in politics and policy process in education.
Steve Clifford, general director of the Alliance, says: “We are delighted to have David join the team here at the Evangelical Alliance.
"Dave will bring a sharp mind, a passion for God and a tremendous ability to make strategic relationships across both church and political spheres.”
