Jon Bernthal of "The Walking Dead" fame will be seen in "Daredevil" season 2 as the ultra-violent anti-hero Frank Castle aka the Punisher. Speaking with IGN, Marvel Chief Creative Officer Joe Quesada was able to reveal a few details regarding the anti-hero and what future he may have in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

"What I can tell you is that anyone who is a hardcore Punisher fan is going to be blown away and incredibly satisfied by Bernthal's take on Frank Castle," explained Quesdada. "It's one of those cases where it's the character from the pages come to life."

According to a report from Screen Rant, it is a little hard to tell just how accurately Quesada's statements are given that there have been several different takes on The Punisher in Marvel Comics, with one imprint going as far as changing him into a demon hunter instead of a hardcore gun-toting vigilante.

However, the report does cite that the version Jon Bernthal's Punisher will be based on may be the more recent realistic takes on the character in order to better fit it into the ongoing Marvel Cinematic Universe and the tone of the "Daredevil" series.

This version of the "Punisher" is noted to be brutal and violent and doesn't think twice about shooting criminals, particularly after the mob murdered his whole family. A glimpse of this take on the Punisher has been seen in the short teaser trailer where the character is seen walking in a medical center with a gun in hand.

When asked if there is a future for the Punisher in future seasons of "Daredevil" or if the character may spawn his own series, Quesada sai, "I think we'd love to see something happen. But it's way too soon to tell."

It is likely the studios are still wary and will want to see how "Daredevil" season 2 fares in the ratings and how audiences respond to Bernthal's take on the Punisher. The studios may also be a bit more precautious due to the fact that both live action "The Punisher" films did not fare well with critics or in the box office.

"Daredevil" season 2 premieres in 2016.
