'Daredevil' season 2 spoilers: 'Daredevil vs the Punisher'

Frank Castle aka The Punisher Marvel Comics

"Daredevil" season 2 is going to introduce Jon Bernthal as Frank Castla aka the Punisher, a violent vigilante who does not hold back and even kills criminals without blinking an eye. According to a report from the Nerdist, the Punisher's method of cleaning up crime will put him in direct conflict with Charlie Cox's Matt Murdock aka Daredevil.

According to the report, Marco Ramirez, the new showrunner of the series, has been quoted calling season 2 as "Daredevil vs the Punisher." At first, this makes it look like the Punisher is going to be the main villain of the season but the report states that this is not going to be the case.

The "Daredevil vs the Punisher" moniker, according to the report, is more likely a philosophical metaphor with regard to how the two heroes try to save Hell's Kitchen.

Now that the Kingpin (Vincent D'Onofrio) is behind bars, there is a void left in the crime world and this causes all the criminal hopefuls to rise up and take his place as the King of Crime. Both the Daredevil and Punisher will attempt to clean the streets from the mob. But while the Daredevil has sworn not to kill, the Punisher has not, and this may cause them to butt heads.

The Nerdist points out that the Punisher may instead be viewed as an anti-hero and that the real main antagonist for the season may be Bullseye. The report cites that both Bullseye and Elektra have been confirmed for season 2 which gives merit to the theory.

According to the report, it is possible that Daredevil meets and falls in love with Elektra but, like her comic book counterpart, she gets killed by Bullseye, forcing Daredevil to team up with the Punisher despite their differences to take down the real threat.

However, this is all just a theory and a report from IGN states that the Punisher might indeed fill in the role of a traditional villain for season 2.

"Daredevil" season 2 will premiere in 2016.
