The 2D sci-fi shooter "Cryptark" is reportedly going to receive a sequel.

According to video game news website PC Gamer, the sequel will be first-person shooter titled "Gunhead." Players will step into the shoes of a man with, as the title hints at, a gun for a head. The announcement trailer was uploaded to Lee Vermeulen's (one of the developers) YouTube channel on Nov. 17. Vermeulen is one of the lead developers of Independent Game Studio Alientrap Entertainment, the studio that both developed and published "Cryptark."

Roughly 50 seconds long, the announcement trailer doesn't give much in terms of the game's plot or how the actual combat mechanics will play out. However, it gives players a glimpse of both the character and art direction, alongside level design and what in-game combat will look like. The announcement trailer was big on the visuals and filled with colorful explosions, giving excited fans a clear view of the game's art style and possibly action-packed content. Judging from the available footage, players will be given an assortment of different guns that they'll be able to use against their enemies in combat.

According to PC Gamer, "Gunhead's" campaign will be non-linear. There will be a story that shed's more light on "Cryptark's" own lore, but what this will be about, has yet to be seen. Players will also have to battle their way through procedurally generated map areas, and whether the randomness of the areas will aid players, or hinder them, in actual in-game combat won't be known until the game is playable.

No specific release date has been given yet, but the game already has a Steam page, confirming that the developers are planning to release "Gunhead" sometime in 2018.

"Gunhead's" predecessor "Cryptark" followed the adventures of a privateer out for government contracts. "Cryptark" was released earlier on June 20, 2017.
