'Crash Bandicoot' PS4 update: Sony not moving on fan demand just yet

Rumors of a new "Crash Bandicoot" game for the PS4 quickly began spreading when it was revealed that the newly launched "Uncharted 4: A Thief's End" had a "Crash Bandicoot" Easter egg hidden in the game, given that both games were created by game developer Naughty Dog. Sony has since responded to the rumors.

Speaking to Official Playstation Magazine UK (via PSU), it was revealed that at the time being Activision was still holding the rights to the Playstation's original mascot and that at the time being there were no official reports of a new game being developed.

"We're certainly aware of the considerable affection - even reverence - in which the mighty Crash is held. But nothing to update at this stage in that area," explained Sony Computer Entertainment Europe CEO Jim Ryan, instantly shutting down the rumors that Sony and Activision may be collaborating on a brand new title in the franchise.

According to a report from Gamespot, Activision explained back in 2013 that the company was still looking for new and innovative means of bringing the character back into the gaming industry instead of rushing out new "Crash Bandicoot" games every year or so. However, to this day Activision has yet to release a brand new "Crash" game.

It is further pointed out that the last real "Crash Bandicoot" game was the mobile game "Crash Bandicoot Nitro Kart 2" as far back as 2010. The last platformer title was "Mind Over Mutants" which launched for the Playstation 2 and Xbox 360 as far back as 2008. No new platformer has been developed since.

The mascot missed out on the entire life cycle of the Playstation 3, without a single game released during the PS3's shelf life before the launch of the PS4.

Activision has yet to make an official announcement in regards to these rumors and if the company is set to make a new "Crash Bandicoot" game any time soon.
