'Continuum' season 4 spoilers; premiere set for July

Continuum Showcase

"Continuum" will start airing its final season this coming July 26 in the U.S. but fans in Canada won't be able to catch season 4 until Sept. 4. Lead actress Rachel Nichols posted the official U.S. release date on her Twitter account while the Canadian premiere was posted via Twitter by series creator Simon Barry.

Last year, Barry stated in an interview that he was hoping the show would continue on for seven to 10 seasons. He stated in the same 2014 interview that the season 3 finale would mark the turning point of Nichols' character and that major changes were going to be implemented in season 4. Nichols, meanwhile, hinted that her character Kiera Cameron would slowly transition into a completely different person after all the troubles she's gone through thus far.

Those hopes were dashed when Showcase pulled the plug and cancelled the series. "Continuum" is still getting a fourth season but instead of the usual 13 episodes, the final season is only getting six. Given that season 4 will be the final run for the show with less episodes, it hasn't been confirmed if the studios are still going to run with the said plot arcs.

"All great stories deserve an end. I am excited and grateful to finish 'Continuum' with the riveting conclusion it deserves," Nichols told The Hollywood Reporter in a 2014 interview.

"Continuum" tells the tale of a group of terrorists from 2077 travelling back to 2012 in order to prevent large corporations from ever taking over the country. However, police officer Kiera Cameron accidentally gets warped with them and she now has to stop them from ever changing the flow of history while also trying to find a way back to her own time period.

The series airs on its native studio channel Showcase in Canada while distribution rights in the U.S. belongs to the SyFy channel.
