Church leaders called in to boost black vote campaign

Lobby group Operation Black Vote has teamed up with church leaders to encourage black people to vote in the next general election.

According to a report by the BBC, the campaign could inspire a million more black voters to head to the polls.

Operation Black Vote is a non-party lobby group which works to ensure racial equality and encourage BME communities to vote and engage with public institutions.

The BBC reports that the group is confident it can achieve its goal of a million more black voters in time to affect the outcome of marginal constituencies.

While voter turnout tends to be lower within the BME community, churches have had little problem in attracting thousands to their services each Sunday.

Operation Black Vote is hoping it can tap into the positive influence of the churches to help black people see the potential of voting in giving their community a political voice.
