Christingle spotlights justice

Churches and schools are being invited to make their Christingle a fairtrade one this year.

The candlelit celebrations are an annual tradition from Advent to Candlemas and support the work of The Children’s Society.

This year, The Children’s Society is teaming up with Traidcraft to raise more funds for their work supporting vulnerable children and young people across the UK.

Traidcraft hopes the partnership will help connect communities in the UK with the developing world.

The organisation has worked with Y-Development, a hill tribe group in northern Thailand, to create a special handmade and fairtrade cotton friendship band that can be tied around the Christingle orange.

The red band is intended as a symbol of the love and blood of Christ and can be worn after the service as a reminder of developing communities around the world.

The chocolate button and beanie tubes can also be used to decorate the orange and collect donations on behalf of The Children’s Society.

The products are available at www.traidcraftshop.co.uk/
