Christians pray to heal Britain

Christians gathered in every borough of London on Pentecost Sunday to pray for God to heal Britain.

The prayer gatherings were held as part of the Global Day of Prayer, which united an estimated 250 million Christians worldwide as the movement marked its tenth anniversary.

Global Day of Prayer London facilitated prayer gatherings in churches and parks in all 33 London boroughs, testimony to the movement’s huge growth in the UK since it was launched in Westminster Chapel, London, in 2006.

Convener of the Global Day of Prayer London, Jonathan Oloyede, told Christians at a prayer gathering in Southwark, south London, to pray for a “new Britain.

“We’re asking God to open up a new Britain, that it no longer is to be broken Britain, but for it to be healed,” he said.

Mr Oloyede invited Christians to take part in a major GDOP London event on June 13 at West Ham football stadium, to be joined by London Mayor Boris Johnson, worship leader Graham Kendrick and X Factor finalist Beverly Trotman.

He said: “We’re inviting churches to come to West Ham and send a delegation to come down as a church, as a family, and come and join thousands of other people as we pray ‘Lord heal our land’.

“This is like a foretaste of Heaven, when we’re lifting up holy hands united at the throne room of God worshipping.

“It’s an indescribable feeling. You have to be there to appreciate it when you’re worshipping with Christians of different traditions but united by the blood of the Lord and by the cross.”
