Chocolate heart for Margaret of York

A Belgian chocolatier is celebrating the life of Margaret of York and the special link between Britain and Belgium with a romantic tribute in chocolate.

Margaret of York was sister to Edward IV and Richard III but lived in Flanders after marrying Charles the Bold, Duke of Burgundy.

It was here that she cherished her spiritual relationship with the monks of the Charterhouse cloister in Herne, Belgium.

In her will, she asked that her body be interred in the cathedral church of Mechelen, while her heart be buried in a casket within the walls of the monastery in Herne.

Herne is also home to chocolatier Chocolat at Home, which sells kits for people to make chocolate in their own home.

The story of Margaret's bequest has inspired Kristel Boelaert at the chocolatier to create a praline-filled chocolate heart kit that comes in a gold-foiled casket together with a brief history of Margaret's life.

The £40.00 kit comes complete with heart shaped mould, chocolate, praline paste and fillings, and recipe card.
