Charity cookbook helps Christians get into the baking spirit

Congregational & General is inviting visitors to the Christian Resources Exhibition next week to come and sample some of the 70 recipes in its charity cookbook.

'Loaves, fishes and more' was launched last year to help raise funds for Christian Aid. A donation is made to the development charity for every copy sold and the church insurer is hoping churches will snap up copies to sell alongside their other fundraising activities.

The cookbook is the first to include recipes from some of the UK's key church leaders, including the Archbishop of Canterbury, Dr Rowan Williams, who offered his recipe for ginger biscuits, and the General Secretary of the Methodist Church, Dr Martyn Atkins, who gave a banana cake recipe.

The CRE next week at the International Centre, Telford, coincides with National Baking Week and Congregational and General are hoping visitors will get into the spirit by sampling some of the recipes.

Marketing Manager Margaret Slater said: “Baking is a pastime that is growing in popularity and now is the ideal time to try out new recipes.

"Loaves, fishes and more is a great way of combining this with charitable giving, so we’ll be encouraging visitors to the Congregational & General stand to sample some of the recipes.

"They will also be able to purchase the cookbook at a discounted rate of £7.50 when bought individually and £6.15 each for five books or more.”

The cookbook is endorsed by celebrity chef Kevin Woodford, who said: “Loaves fishes and more is a fantastic fundraising initiative for Christian Aid and a great source of inspiration during National Baking Week.”

Individual copies of Loaves, fishes and more will be available on the Congregational & General stand, B21, at the Heart of England CRE for £7.50 and the book is also on sale now at independent and high street book sellers RRP £11.99. ISBN: 978-0-9549254-6-8
