'Castle' season 8 spoilers, plot: Show to bring changes including new female character Hayley

Castle and Beckett might be parents in Castle season 8 ABC

"Castle" season 8 has already begun production as leads Stana Katic and Nathan Fillion signed back on after their contracts ended with season 7. However, according to a report from the Latin Post, season 8 will be unlike any season prior, with both lead stars promising that a lot of changes are in store for fans.

"Don't be worried," Fillion stated in the report while confronting rumors that Castle and Beckett might go their separate ways in season 8. "In order for a show to continue and to move forward, things have to change. And things have changed, every year, for these two."

Change is inevitable as "Castle" now has new showrunners, Terence Paul Winter and Alexi Hawley, taking over. According to the report, there are rumors spreading around that the new showrunners have a lot of game-changing twists for the main story in season 8.

One hint is the introduction of a new female character named Hayley, to be played by Toks Olagundoye. Although initially described as "a quick-witted, free-spirited former LAPD cop," a more current description in the Web pictures Hayley as "a quick-witted, free-spirited, former Scotland Yard police officer who works as a security specialist and is not afraid to cross lines to get things done."

The initial casting call for Hayley indicated that the studios were looking for someone in their mid-20's. Olagundoye is currently 39, but Hollywood is fond of taking older actors to portray younger characters.

Latin Post reports that Hayley might be someone stepping in between Castle and Beckett or she could be an important supporter for Beckett if the latter intends to continue her run for Senate office. Other fans speculate that Hayley might be an important factor in helping Beckett decide to quit the elections and take up the offer to become police chief.

"Castle" season 8 premieres on Sept. 21.
