Cardinal gets behind Lenten campaign in support of Haiti

Catholic development charity SCIAF's Wee Box, Big Change campaign encourages people to give up a favourite treat during such as coffee or chocolate, and put the money they save into a SCIAF Wee Box. However much they raise can then be donated to the charity at Easter.

The focus of this year’s campaign is SCIAF's work assisting survivors of the devastating earthquake that hit Haiti in 2010.

The earthquake killed 230,000 people and left millions of people homeless and destitute.

Cardinal O’Brien visited SCIAF's projects in Haiti with the charity's Chief Executive Paul Chitnis in January this year.

He said: “On my recent visit to Haiti I saw for myself the hard work being done by SCIAF and its partners to help thousands of people whose lives have been turned upside down by last year’s devastating earthquake.

“I would encourage parishes, schools and the general public across Scotland to enter into the spirit of sacrifice during Lent by giving up a favourite treat and putting the money you save in a Wee Box, so that SCIAF can help more people in need to have a better life.”
