Activision has buckled down a little bit with the "Call of Duty" and "Assassin's Creed" games, giving the developers more time to work on the titles instead of rushing them for an annual launch. That being said, rumors are now flying about that this year's "Call of Duty" will be set in the far future and in space.
The information first leaked on NeoGAF, courtesy of industry insider known only as shinobi602. According to the insider, Infinity Ward has been tapped to develop the next game and that it will not be a direct sequel to "Call of Duty: Ghosts." The game is also to be "very sci-fi" and will involve space combat.
Shinobi602 also points out that while "Black Ops 3" and "Modern Warfare" were already pretty futuristic in their setting and tone, this new game will make "Black Ops 3" "feel like the stone age," indicating that a lot of futuristic tech will be implemented in the game.
As stated in a report from IGN, this insider has proven his source to be a trustworthy after properly predicting that "Call of Duty: Black Ops 3" would indeed have new features like wall running as well as cybernetic augmentations. Shinobi602 also predicted that the Xbox 360 and PS3 versions will be developed by a different studio.
The report from IGN also confirms that the next "Call of Duty" will indeed make an appearance at this year's E3 despite the fact that Activision will not have their own booth. It is likely that the publisher will only conduct a short presentation to unveil their new and upcoming games, which will include "Call of Duty 2016."
A separate report from Eurogamer claimed that it has also gained similar details from an unnamed source, indicating that this futuristic space setting for the next game in the franchise is likely to be true.
