"Brooklyn Nine Nine" will be returning for a second season, and the first episode of the action comedy TV series  is likely to surprise fans.

According to the executive producer of the FOX show, Mike Schur, the upcoming season will not be starting where the first season concluded.

"There is a time jump. It does not pick up right where we left off," Schur said.

"Brooklyn Nine Nine" will be following Detective Jake Peralta, played by Andy Samberg, as he goes undercover for a mission to attack the mob. In the premiere episode, Jenny Slate will be playing the role of Bianca, an aggressive mob mistress who is expected to aid Jake in taking down the criminal organization.

In the previous season, Jake intentionally had himself discharged from the precinct for him to work in secret for the FBI.

In terms of relationships, Jake has opened up to Detective Amy Santiago, played by Melissa Fumero, about him wanting to build a romantic relationship with her.

However, Schur pointed out that such love affair will not be the emphasis of the upcoming season, although it will be an important factor that the FOX series will be following during the entire season two.

Meanwhile, the relationship of Detective Charles Boyle (Joe Lo Truglio) and Gina Linetti (Chelsea Peretti) may become even more complex and will add more questions in the show.

"We came up with the twist ending of Charles and Gina fairly early on, as a way to complicate everyone's world heading into Season 2," said Schur.

Dirk Blocker, who appeared as Detective Michael Hitchcock, and Joel McKinnon Miller, who portrayed Detective Norm Scully, will become regular cast members in the series.  Craig Robinson and Patton Oswalt, who guest starred in the first season, are also expected to make a comeback, while Kyra Sedgwick has been confirmed to appear in two episodes for season two.

"Brooklyn Nine Nine" season two has been slotted for an official premiere date on Sunday, Sept. 28, at 8:30 p.m. on FOX.
