'Blacklist' season 3 episode 1 spoilers: Liz's relationships get complicated

The Blacklist NBC

"The Blacklist" will continue and NBC has officially announced that season 3 will premiere this Sept. 24. The next season will change things a bit now that Liz (Megan Boone) is no longer with the FBI and is being hunted by her former allies.

According to a report from iDigital Times, season 3 will showcase very different dynamics now that Reddington (James Spader) and Liz are on the run. One of the main issues that the report points out is that Liz will struggle with her relationships with the men in her life.

Season 2 ended with Donald Ressler (Diego Klattenhoff) putting Liz on the FBI's most wanted list while firing Director Cooper (Harry Lenix) from his position. Tom Keene (Ryan Eggold), Liz's ex-husband, is in the crossroads deciding whether to side with the FBI or help Liz get away.

In an interview with TV Guide in 2014, executive producer John Eisendrath confirmed that the next season would not feature a romantic relationship between Liz and Ressler despite some subtle hints spread across season 2. Eisendrath explained that the crew wanted to focus on developing Ressler's character and that a relationship with Liz might take this focus away.

As for those hoping for something between Liz and Red, Boone stated that the love they share is not of the romantic kind.

"I think people see how much Red loves her, and it is a confusing kind of love," Boone explained to Zap2it. "I think that will have to be answered. How do you love someone that deeply — no matter what the circumstances, but especially when the circumstances are mysterious?"

As for Tom, he was last shown muddled in uncertainty. According to the report from iDigital Times, Tom is the biggest obstacle between Ressler and Liz ever getting together. His choices to either help or hunt her may tip the scales for Ressler.
