Bishop TD Jakes to Speak at Mega Britain Event

Bishop TD Jakes, one of the world's most influential church leaders, will be the special guest speaker at an event hosted by the New Testament Church of God (NTCG).

The 'Big Move' National Convention will be held at Birmingham's National Indoor Arena (NIA) from 27th to 29th July, where over 8,000 people are expected to attend.

The three-day event will feature preaching, gospel music and educational workshops.

Bishop Eric Brown, National Overseer of the NTCG stated: "We are very excited about hosting our Big Move convention at the NIA, as it makes us as a church feel we are returning to our roots. The NTCG began in the Midlands, and its Midlands based ministers helped facilitate the growth of NTCG in others parts of the UK during the 50s and 60s."

He continued: "The theme of this year's event is 'Proclaiming the Power of Pentecost' and we are excited about hosting Bishop TD Jakes, as it will be the first time he addresses a NTGC convention here in Britain. He is an inspiring preacher and teacher and we believe he will deliver a message of hope, empowerment and faith to those that attend the convention.

"I also believe he will have a special message for black Britons, particularly our young people in encouraging them to eschew violence and take advantage of the many opportunities that are available to them."

Rev Dr Derek Webley who presides over the NTCG District Handsworth, Birmingham and serves as Convention Chairman believes Bishop Jakes' visit will make a real difference. He said: "He is well known for lifting the aspirations of African-Americans, both young and old, and I believe that his presence and the message that he brings will cause a similar thing to happen here in the UK, and that he will remind people that having faith in God and living according to Christian principles can affect peoples lives for the better."

Known as one of the most respected black Pentecostal churches in Britain, the NTCG was founded in 1953.

Bishop TD Jakes is founder and senior pastor of mega church, The Potters House based in Dallas, Texas, and is a leading Christian minister in the US. He is also a respected teacher, author and film-maker.

Other guest speakers at this year's convention include Rev Agu Irukwu, leader of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Dr Raymond Culpepper, first assistant general overseer of the International Church of God, Rev Sharmaine Perrin and Professor Clinton L Ryan, ministers within NTCG. Muyiwa and Riversongz, Dorothy Allen and Ian Pitter are the guest artists.
